M. Thronton and Mrs. Thornton of 501 Stolp Avenue who died Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital will be conducted Saturday morning. The child died of pneumonia and empyema. Services will be held in the home at 8:30 am and from Most Holy Rosary Church at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Surviving besides her parents are two brothers Joseph T. and James W. Thornton: her grand parents Mr. and Mrs Michael J. Syracuse, died yesterday in Arlington after a long illness. He was a native of Syracuse and resided in Virginia for the last four years. Dr. Thornton was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School and Le Moyne College, Class of 1968. He received his doctor of dentistry degree from Georgetown University this year. Before entering Georgetown, Dr. Thornton taught math at Grant Junior High School for four years. Surviving are his wife, the former Ann Swain; his mother, Mrs. Marian Murphy Thornton, widow of Dr. Joseph M. Thornton; three brothers, Dr. Joseph T., James V., and William M. Thornton, all of Fairmount, and 16 nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Holy Family Catholic Church, Fairmount. Contributions may be made to the Sidney Flowers Research Fund in care of Seymour Alpert at George Washington University. Whelan Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of, local arrangements. | Marian Smith Obituary: August 05, 1980 Mrs. Marian F. Murphy Thornton, 75, of 113 Ivy Lane, and Otisco Lake, died yesterday in a local nursing home after a long illness. She was the widow of Dr. Joseph M. Thornton. The family formerly had resided on Stolp Avenue. Mrs. Thornton was a life resident of Syracuse, a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, class of 1923, and St. Joseph's College, Emmittsburg, Md. She was a teacher and had been a member of the faculty of Bishop Ludden High School from 1963 to 1973. Mrs. Thornton was a member and past president of St Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies of Charity of the former House of Providence, the Mothers' Club and Altar and Rosary Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Rosary. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church of Fairmount. Surviving are three sons, James V., William M. and Dr. Joseph T. Thornton; a sister, Mrs, Helen Kompf Kraft, and 14 grandchildren.
